What is Reenacting?

    Reenacting is portraying a time period, usually affiliated with a time of war or great conflict. Reenacting has been a hobby for decades, with thousands of members worldwide, focusing on educating and preservation of history. Reenactors teach and relive historical events through a first-person learning environment. Most of our reenactments are done in the style of private tacticals, which are typically a weekend retreat, recreating battles from World War Two. We use firearms with blank ammunition and authentic uniforms and gear. During the summer, we have public events with period encampments where non-reenactors are invited to come and watch.

    Reenacting is a hands-on, interactive, way to learn and teach about specific time periods in history. If you like history and want to be able to take a step into the past, you might want to ask yourself: Is reenacting for me?

What Do I Need?

    Getting into the hobby can be quite exciting. However, trying to find your uniform and gear can often be a tricky process. Once you have decided what group you are interested in joining, talk with other members in the club. Communication is the best learning tool. There are many vendors that sell World War 2 clothing, gear, and weapons. Decide whether you are looking for original items or reproduction items. Do some research to find out what your impression needs, and to know what items would be authentic.

What is the Age Requirement?

    Each regular member (of the California Historical Group) must be (at least) 18 years of age at the time of application, except as provided below. A member less than 18 years of age may be admitted to membership if either accompanied at re-enactments by a parent or guardian or, if not so accompanied, if a wavier of liability signed by such parent or guardian is submitted to the Membership Chairman prior to such re-enactment. In no event, however, may anyone under the age of 15 be admitted to membership.
